Welcome to the How to Attend page. We wanted to provide detailed information that will make your attendance and participation in the meeting enjoyable as well as comfortable.

General Preparation Recommendations
These recommendations are not required to attend the training, but would provide you with an optimal experience.
- Create a work gmail if you do not have one (example: my email is firstname.lastname@example.org and I created a work gmail of email@example.com).
- Use the Chrome browser when accessing materials provided
- You can join from any device of your choice, but we recommend using a laptop in case you would like to experiment with some of the programs during the event.
At the very least, you need a telephone and a computer. The virtual platform we will be using has an audio hook-up through the telephone, so although you may not be able to see anyone, you can hear the discussions and the soft copies on your USB drive and the hard copies in your packet will enable you to participate.
Ideally a computer, internet access, web camera, and a headset with a mic is recommended to attend the meeting. The equipment enables you to access the virtual convening space to see the agenda, locate and access the meeting rooms, and read about the presenters and the descriptions of each topic.

As you know the COVID-19 pandemic has curtailed the opportunities to meet in person and many organizations have turned to the virtual world to hold conferences, trainings, and meetings. The NLCC T/TA Center is no different.
We polled our NLCC Cohort and found that most preferred the virtual platform that Zoom provides. In addition, the NLCC T/TA Center team researched the available platforms that would meet the needs and expectation of the NLCC Cohort, the NLCC T/TA Center and the Administration for Native Americans. Zoom was the platform of choice for this meeting.

- What is Zoom?
Zoom is a video conferencing service that allows you to host video conference calls with large groups of people. Zoom offers a no charge option with limitations. Paid for options have different levels of conferencing available.
- What do I need to attend the meeting on Zoom?
Ideally, we’d like to see you and hear you during the event. Here’s a list of the basic equipment and services needed to attend a Zoom meeting.
- A computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
- An internet connection of at least 1.0 Mbps per user for this event.
- An internet browser
- A microphone and a speaker—or, alternately, a teleconferencing headset.
- A built-in camera or external webcam.
- Download the Zoom app onto your computer, tablet, or phone at least a day BEFORE the NLCC Semi-annual Meeting. - Do I need a Zoom account to participate in the meeting?
No. Download and install the Zoom app, simply enter the Meeting ID and Password when prompted and join in the meeting.
Upon registration, you will receive a link to the virtual agenda that will have all the Zoom links (Meeting ID and Passwords) for each session. You will also receive an Outlook invitation the week before with the Zoom link and meeting passcodes for each session.
- How do I use Zoom to attend the NLCC Semi-annual Meeting?
Here’s a quick, step-by-step rundown on how to get Zoom up and running on your computer or mobile device.
- Download the Zoom app (for free) from the Apple Store or Google Play. Then install the Zoom app on your computer.
- To join a meeting, click the blue Join button and enter the Meeting ID or meeting URL. The meeting may be password-protected, and if that’s the case you’ll be given a password along with the Meeting ID.
- When you click to join, a delay may occur as the host clears you to pass through the Waiting Room and enter the meeting proper.
- How do I control my video and audio when I’m in Zoom?
- The buttons to start video and unmute audio are in the bottom left corner of your screen—a white microphone icon and a white video camera icon.
- When video is stopped or audio is muted, the icon will have a diagonal red line through it. To start the video again or unmute the audio, just click on the button and it will switch on.
- You can also hold down the spacebar to temporarily unmute audio, and then mute it again by taking your finger off the spacebar.
- How do I access breakout rooms during the meeting?
During the breakout session, each registrant will automatically be moved to the assigned space.
- The NLCC T/TA Center will assign all registered participants to breakout rooms for workgroups or discussions.
- Each breakout room will have a facilitator.
- When the breakout session is concluded, the registrants will be moved back into the plenary space.
- How can I let others know that I want to speak?
In the lower left corner is a raise hand image, that you can click on. Or enter in the chat box that you would like to speak next.
- Can I use my dual screen setup?
Yes, you can. You can set up a dual-screen display to see all the speakers in one window and screen-share content in a separate window. This is great if you’re in the middle of a presentation and want to see what’s being displayed on someone’s desktop but also want to keep track of who’s talking.
- To set up dual monitors, go to the Video Settings tab once you’re logged into a meeting, go to the General section, and click the checkbox for “Use dual monitors.”
To keep the virtual meeting “livelier” we are using Nearpod for some of the topics (MOU Partnerships, CRA Discussion, and Year 5 Planning).

- What is Nearpod?
Nearpod is a student engagement platform that works with various technology such as PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, iPads as well as iPhones and Androids. The teacher creates presentations or lessons that include quizzes, polls, videos, images, drawing boards, collaboration boards, etc.
- Is Nearpod free?
Nearpod has four pricing plans ranging from Free to School & District. The Silver plan is free.
- How can students access Nearpod? Do they need a Nearpod account?
Students do not need an account. The teacher shares the link to the site and the five-letter code to access the lesson.
- How will we access Nearpod while in Zoom?
The presenter or facilitator will provide the Nearpod link and the code to access the lesson in the Zoom chat box. Also, you will find the link and the 5-letter access code in the description of the topic.
- Copy the Nearpod link from the Zoom chat box.
- Open a new browser window (Do NOT close your Zoom window)
- Paste the Nearpod link in the URL address bar and hit return to go to site. Once there, you will see the code box.
- Return to the Zoom chat box and copy the 5-letter code
- Return to the Nearpod site and paste the 5-letter code into the box and hit submit.
- Enter in your first name so the facilitator/presenter knows you were able to access Nearpod.

- When done in Nearpod, close Nearpod (x at the top of the right-hand screen) and you can return to the Zoom window.
- Why are we using Nearpod for our meeting?
